SSC Junior Engineer Examination Introduction: The Staff Selection Commission conducts a Junior Engineer Examination for selecting staff for various Junior Engineer posts in different ministries/ departments/ organizations of the Indian Government. The examination is conducted in 2 Tiers, First, the preliminary examination, Second the main examination. Only the candidates qualifying the preliminary examination are allowed to sit for the Main Examination.

SSC Junior Engineer Examination Exam Notification: The Staff Selection Commission issued notification for the Junior Engineer Examination 2016-17. The notification is released on 01 Oct’2016. It has complete details about the exam date, last date to apply, age limit, eligibility criteria, vacancies, etc.  Online submission of the form can be done through the official website. The tier-1 exam will be conducted from 01-04 March’2017.

SSC Junior Engineer Examination Admit Cards: Once the online forms have been accepted by the Staff Selection Commission, the Admit Cards of Tier-I Exam will be released online, 2-3 weeks before the commencement of the exam. One needs to check the website regularly in order to stay updated.

SSC Junior Engineer Examination Exam Centres: A candidate has to mention his/her preferred center at the time of filling the form. In most of the cases, the candidates are allocated the center of their choice; however under some situations when the number of candidates is in excess, then SSC may sometimes allot centers other than the preferred center.

SSC Junior Engineer Examination Exam Dates: The exam will be conducted from 01-04 March’2017 at various centers across the country. The selected candidates will be allowed to sit in the Tier-II Exam which will be conducted in July’2017. The last date to apply for the tier-1 exam is 03 Nov’2016.

SSC Junior Engineer Examination Qualification

The qualification required for SSC Junior Engineer Examination is B.E/ B.tech/ Diploma or an equivalent degree in the required discipline(as per the post applying for) from a recognized university at the time of applying. Anything below this will not be considered by the Staff Selection Commission. Such candidates will not be allowed to give the exam.

 The candidates applying for Junior Engineer (Electrical, Mechanical & Civil) MES, also need to have 2 years work experience in their respective engineering works.

Age Limit

The candidates appearing for the Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineer Examination (Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical), Central Water Commission and CPWD must not exceed 32 years.

The candidates appearing for the Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineer Examination (Civil, Electrical & Mechanical), MES must not exceed 30 years.

 The candidates appearing for the Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineer Examination (Civil and Electrical), Department of Post and Junior Engineer (Surveying and Contract), MES must be between 18 to 27 years.

Considerable age relaxation is provided as per the government norms.

Citizenship

A candidate must be either:

(a) a citizen of India, or

(b) a subject of Nepal, or

(c) a subject of Bhutan, or

(d) a Tibetan refugee who has settled permanently in India before 01  Jan’1962, or

(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania,  Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Syllabus

TIER-1:

 Staff Selection Commission conducts a Computer Based Exam which is objective in nature.

  •  This is also known as Preliminary Exam as it is compulsory to clear it in order to become eligible for Tier-2 or the Main Exam.
  •  It is divided into 3 sections.
  •  There’s a negative marking of 0.25 in all the sections.
  •  The time duration is 2 hours and the maximum marks equal to 200.

 The 3 sections under Tier-1 include:

  •  General Intelligence and Reasoning
  •  General Awareness
  •  General Engineering

a) Civil & Structural

b) Electrical

c) Mechanical

TIER-2:

·         It is a conventional type paper.

·         It comprises of 3 sections.

·         Candidates only need to attend the section relevant to their applied post.

·         It carries 300 marks.

·         Exam duration is 2 hours.

Cut off List/Result

·         The cut off is decided on the basis of:

a)      number of candidates appearing in the exam,

b)      difficulty level of the exam,

c)       the number of seats.

·         The category wise cut off list is also released by the Commission.
